Mel’s Diner celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with traditional food, good cheer, great values
Bonita Springs, Fla. – St. Patrick’s Day has always been one of the biggest days on the Mel’s calendar -- and rightfully so. People expect good cheer and good deals when they enter a Mel’s location, and they certainly will receive that -- and more -- on this holiday.

On Friday, March 17, Mel’s Diner will offer guests its St. Patrick’s Day Special, a set menu of traditional Irish favorites served all day. The Special includes Corned Beef and Cabbage, Boiled Potatoes and a choice of Mel’s House Salad or Pea Soup -- all for $9.99.

To sweeten the deal, and perhaps add a little more Irish cheer to the festivities, Mel’s will also offer each diner his or her first Killian’s Irish Red for only $.99 (with purchase of Adult entrée; dine-in only). Wearing green is entirely optional, though certainly not discouraged.

Founded by Chris Karakosta in San Carlos, FL in 1989, Mel’s Diner, affectionately known as “Southwest Florida’s kitchen,” originally set out to mimic the look and feel of Karakosta’s first eatery, the Chicago-based family style diner, Dimitri’s. Before Mel’s, Karakosta owned and operated two other establishments in the southwest Florida area, the upscale steak-and-seafood spot, The Green Onion, and Stevie Tomato’s Sports Page, one of the region’s first sports bars.

Currently, the chain boasts 10 locations throughout southwest Florida and plans to add three more stores by 2007, including spots in Naples, Cape Coral and Sarasota. While its reach may be widespread, each store continues to pride itself on the family friendly service, high value and made-from-scratch comfort foods that made the original location such a success.
